> As of: July 2026.

As of: July 2026. Since 1 November 2025, under a proclamation signed on 17 October 2025, the United States has levied a 25% Section 232 tariff on imported medium- and heavy-duty vehicles (Class 3–8 trucks such as tractor units, dump and garbage trucks) and their parts; buses (HTSUS heading 8702) are subject to 10%. The legal basis is Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 (national security) — not the IEEPA underpinning the reciprocal tariffs. U.S.-assembled trucks and engines qualify for a manufacturer offset of 3.75% of vehicle value until 31 October 2030, partially crediting duties paid on parts. For USMCA-qualifying vehicles from Canada and Mexico, the tariff applies only to the non-U.S. content; the U.S. Commerce Department (ITA) issued a documentation procedure on 2 February 2026, with CBP filing guidance following in May 2026. Not to be confused with the Section 232 auto tariffs on passenger cars and light trucks. When filing via the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS), stacking rules apply; framework deals provide differing caps for EU and Japanese vehicle parts.
