Logistics providers and shippers deploy the truck as the key motor vehicle for road freight, particularly well-suited to short-haul, regional distribution, and last-mile delivery. Unlike an articulated lorry – where the tractor unit and semi-trailer are separable – a rigid truck has a permanently mounted cargo body. Classification follows permissible gross weight and body type: box van, curtainsider, refrigerated unit, crane truck, or tanker. For customs purposes and international transport documentation, the truck's registration plate and vehicle identification number (VIN) are routinely required fields.
