A shipment arrives damaged, a pallet is emptied en route, a container disappears without trace – transport security covers all physical, organisational, and technical measures that protect goods from theft, damage, tampering, and loss throughout the supply chain. Typical elements include seals, locks, GPS tracking, CCTV at terminals, and rigorous vetting of carriers and handling partners. In cross-border trade, security is also a regulatory matter: companies holding Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status must implement and document verifiable security standards as a condition of their accreditation. Not to be confused with load securing, which refers specifically to the physical restraint of cargo on a vehicle or vessel.
