A transport hub is any facility where two or more modes of transport – road, rail, inland waterway, sea, or air – converge and cargo is transferred between them. Major seaports such as Rotterdam or Hamburg connect ocean vessels with river barges, rail, and trucks; cargo airports link air freight to road and rail networks. For logistics operators, these hubs are the joints of multimodal supply chains: the quality of infrastructure, handling equipment, and turnaround times determines whether a chain flows or stalls. Not to be confused with distribution centers, which focus on storage and order fulfillment rather than modal interchange.
