Fleet managers use this data to optimise asset utilisation (knowing which trailer is available and where), to schedule preventive maintenance for tyres and braking systems, and to produce an unbroken temperature log for the cargo. For refrigerated trailers, temperature recording is often a regulatory requirement to demonstrate compliance to authorities or customers. Unlike vehicle telematics, which primarily follows the driver and tractor unit, trailer telematics tracking stays with the load carrier across tractor changes.
