Trade data harmonization is the alignment of data formats, coding systems, and data structures so that commercial documents such as invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations remain consistent across systems and machine-readable. International standards including UN/EDIFACT, ISO country codes, and the Harmonized System for tariff classification provide the technical backbone. Without this alignment, data handoffs break down, manual rekeying multiplies, and errors accumulate – often resulting in customs holds or compliance failures.
