# Timber and Wood Product Tariffs (Section 232)

*Last updated: 2026-06-25*

> As of June 2026.

As of June 2026. Since 14 October 2025, the United States has imposed Section 232 tariffs on timber, wood products and certain furniture: 10% on softwood timber and lumber, 25% on upholstered wooden furniture, and 25% on kitchen cabinets and vanities. Increases originally scheduled for 1 January 2026 (upholstered furniture to 30%, cabinets and vanities to 50%) were postponed for one year by a proclamation of 31 December 2025, so the 25% rates now apply through at least 1 January 2027. As with other Section 232 measures (cf. steel and aluminum tariffs, copper tariffs, auto tariffs), the legal basis is national security. Country caps apply: imports from the United Kingdom are capped at 10%, while for the EU and Japan the combined Section 232 and most-favored-nation (MFN) rate is capped at 15%. Wood products covered by these Section 232 duties are not additionally subject to the reciprocal tariffs or the IEEPA tariffs (see the non-stacking rule). Not to be confused with the separate anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Canadian softwood lumber, which remain in force independently.
