# Swiss customs tariff

Unlike the EU's TARIC, which establishes a common external tariff across all member states, the Swiss customs tariff is Switzerland's own goods classification and duty system. Built on the international Harmonized System (HS), it assigns systematic tariff codes to all imports and exports. For each commodity category it specifies duty rates, surcharges, and trade policy measures – including tariff-rate quotas, preferential arrangements with partners such as the EU and EFTA states, and anti-dumping provisions where applicable. Freight forwarders and customs brokers consult it for every customs declaration to determine the correct classification, origin rules, and applicable levies. The tariff is administered and published by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS).
