# Supply Chain Visibility

*Last updated: 2026-06-22*

> Unlike supply chain transparency – which targets the disclosure of data and responsibilities – supply chain visibility refers to the technical, real-time tracking of goods, containers, and vehicles throughout the transport chain.

Unlike supply chain transparency – which targets the disclosure of data and responsibilities – supply chain visibility refers to the technical, real-time tracking of goods, containers, and vehicles throughout the transport chain. Freight forwarders deploy GPS positioning, IoT sensors, and barcode and RFID systems to know at any moment where a shipment is, when it will arrive, and whether delays are imminent. Visibility is therefore a technical prerequisite for transparency, but is limited to monitoring physical movements. It shortens response times when disruptions occur, enables proactive customer communication, and supports early detection of damage or theft.
