The central goal is to have the right product at the right place at the right time while minimising capital tied up in stock. In cross-border trade, SCM extends to managing transport modes, customs documentation, and supplier relationships across multiple legal jurisdictions. SCM is broader than logistics: logistics addresses the physical movement of goods, whereas SCM also governs information flows and financial processes throughout the entire chain. Effective SCM shortens lead times, reduces inventory costs, and raises delivery reliability.
