A Single Window customs interface is a government-operated digital platform that allows exporters, importers, and freight forwarders to submit all trade and customs data for a shipment once, with the system automatically distributing that information to every relevant authority—customs, health, veterinary, phytosanitary, and others. This replaces separate agency-by-agency filings with a single data flow, shortening clearance times, reducing errors from duplicate data entry, and providing a unified view of permit and release status across all authorities. The concept has been internationally standardized through UN/CEFACT Recommendation No. 33 and is actively promoted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) as a core trade facilitation measure. It should not be confused with a private single-stop customs agent or broker: the Single Window is public IT infrastructure, not a commercial service.
