An SPMT consists of standardised, hydraulically controlled axle modules that can be coupled in virtually any configuration; each axle steers independently and adjusts vertically, allowing precise manoeuvring in tight port terminals or on congested construction sites. The platform can travel sideways, diagonally, or pivot on the spot. Drive power comes from an integrated unit or an external Power Pack Unit (PPU), and by combining modules, payloads of several thousand tonnes are achievable.
