This eliminates lifting risk, speeds turnaround, and keeps damage rates low—a key concern for automotive manufacturers shipping thousands of units per voyage. The terminal type is standard for new vehicle distribution, construction machinery, agricultural equipment, and oversized cargo that cannot be containerised. After customs clearance, consignees receive vehicles in driveable condition directly from the yard. Unlike container terminals, which rely on vertical stacking, RoRo terminals require extensive flat storage areas—known as finishing compounds—where vehicles undergo pre-delivery inspection and preparation.
