This is the formal demand for compensation addressed to the carrier, freight forwarder, or insurer when cargo has been damaged during transport, handling, or storage. The claim must describe the damage specifically, reference the relevant transport documents, and ideally include photographic evidence. Timing is critical: depending on the applicable law, contract of carriage, or insurance policy, the damage must be noted at delivery or reported within a short window thereafter – late notification can forfeit all entitlement.
