# Registered Exporter

> A registered exporter (REX) is a company authorised by customs authorities to make out statements on origin directly on commercial documents – invoices, delivery notes, or equivalent papers – without obtaining a separate certificate of origin for each shipment.

A registered exporter (REX) is a company authorised by customs authorities to make out statements on origin directly on commercial documents – invoices, delivery notes, or equivalent papers – without obtaining a separate certificate of origin for each shipment. The REX system has been introduced at EU level and applies to preferential origin declarations under specific EU free trade agreements. Registration requires the exporter to demonstrate reliability, sound knowledge of the applicable preferential origin rules, and adequate record-keeping. For businesses exporting regularly under preferential trade agreements, REX status significantly reduces clearance times and administrative costs. It is distinct from the older approved exporter status, which remains in use under certain bilateral agreements and confers a comparable but separately governed privilege.
