When stock at a location drops below a defined threshold – or a new order arrives – the system automatically signals the supplier or production unit to replenish. The result is lower average inventory, improved cash flow, and reduced risk of aged or obsolete stock. In sectors where shelf life is a critical constraint, such as food and pharmaceuticals, this approach consistently outperforms forecast-driven push replenishment. It should not be confused with just-in-time delivery: pull-based replenishment refers to the demand signal logic, whereas JIT describes the timing of the delivery itself.
