> Proof of transit provides the documentary evidence that goods have crossed a customs territory under a transit procedure without being released for free circulation.

Proof of transit provides the documentary evidence that goods have crossed a customs territory under a transit procedure without being released for free circulation. It confirms that the procedure was properly opened at departure and discharged at the office of destination. Accepted instruments include the T-document (SAD) used under the Common Transit Convention, the TIR Carnet, the ATA Carnet, and official endorsements issued by the destination customs office. Freight forwarders and customs brokers must keep this documentation available throughout the entire transit movement and present it when closing the procedure. If proof of transit is missing or inconsistent, customs authorities may recover outstanding duties or refuse to formally close the transit.
