A Proof of Delivery (POD) is the documentary or digital record confirming that a consignment has been handed over to the consignee. It captures the date and time of delivery together with the recipient's name and signature – or, in electronic systems, a PIN confirmation or digital signature image. In parcel, express (CEP), and freight operations, POD is the primary instrument for delimiting carrier liability: without a valid POD, a logistics provider faces significant evidential difficulties when defending against claims of non-delivery or loss. It is distinct from a delivery note, which accompanies the goods from the shipper's side; the POD is signed by the consignee and retained by the carrier. In international road freight, the consignee-signed CMR waybill commonly serves the same evidentiary function.
