From the moment a shipment leaves the consignor, it generates a document trail that accompanies the entire transport process. Processing documents are the collective body of records created, exchanged, and retained during the execution of a transport order: bills of lading, customs declarations, packing lists, commercial invoices, and shipping notifications are among the most common. For freight forwarders, customs authorities, insurers, and consignees, they serve as binding evidence of shipment contents, routing, and responsibilities. Unlike contractual documents agreed before an order begins, processing documents are generated operationally—during the active transport process—and may exist in paper or electronic form. Their completeness and accuracy are prerequisites for customs clearance, claims settlement, and proper accounting.
