Pre-shipment inspection (PSI) is the structured verification of goods carried out immediately before dispatch, confirming that quantity, condition, labeling, and packaging match the purchase order and shipping documents. Freight forwarders and shippers rely on it as a final checkpoint before cargo passes out of the exporter's control. Many importing countries legally require PSI by accredited inspection bodies to counter customs value fraud and misdeclaration. PSI is distinct from in-process quality control during manufacturing and from a factory acceptance test at the supplier's premises – PSI applies exclusively to goods that are ready for dispatch.
