The Port of Le Havre, at the Seine estuary in Normandy, is France's primary maritime gateway for international trade and one of the largest container ports in Northwest Europe. It connects an extensive hinterland – spanning Paris, the Rhine corridor, and the Benelux region – via rail, road, and inland waterway. Specialised terminals serve containers, RoRo (automotive), dry bulk, and reefer cargo. For freight forwarders, Le Havre is a key port of call on transatlantic and Far East services; customs clearance is handled by the French customs authority (DGDDI). Compared with Rotterdam or Antwerp, Le Havre is more closely tied to the French domestic market, though it competes directly as part of the European Northern Range.
