> A pick-up service is a transport offering in which a carrier or freight forwarder collects shipments directly from the shipper's premises and feeds them into its own network.

A pick-up service is a transport offering in which a carrier or freight forwarder collects shipments directly from the shipper's premises and feeds them into its own network. The shipper is relieved of delivering goods to a depot or arranging pre-carriage independently. Collection windows are agreed contractually – fixed schedules for regular customers, flexible slots for occasional shippers, usually at an additional charge. Costs vary by frequency, distance, and shipment volume and appear as a separate line item on the freight invoice. Pick-up service is distinct from delivery service, which covers the final leg to the consignee.
