# Passar Participant

In plain terms: anyone taking part in a customs clearance is recorded in Passar as a participant.

For practitioners (freight forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading firms): each participant is uniquely identified by its BAZG number / UID in the ePortal and takes on one or more participant roles in the declaration – typically declarant, importer, exporter, consignee, consignor or carrier. Correct assignment of participants governs responsibilities, liability and the subsequent assessment (Veranlagung). Passar transfers participant data in structured form – via the web interface or the B2B interface (API) – and links it to the transport declaration in Declar.

Distinction: "participant" refers to the person or company itself; the function it performs in a given case is the Passar participant role (Beteiligtenrolle) or declarant role (Anmelderolle).
