A Passar API message is a structured electronic message exchanged between a company's software and Switzerland's Passar goods-traffic system operated by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG). In plain terms: anyone who wants to communicate with customs directly from their own forwarding, ERP or customs system — rather than through a web interface — connects their software to Passar's message-based (XML) interface and sends and receives such messages automatically. For professionals (forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading companies, software providers): the interface is used in particular to submit the goods declaration and the transport declaration, to trigger activation, and to receive system responses — such as the selection result (release/control), status and error messages, and the electronic assessment decision (eVV). The technical specifications (message specifications, schemas) and access are provided by the BAZG via the BAZG API portal; connecting requires registration in the ePortal, the relevant business-partner roles and a valid certificate. To be distinguished from the "Declar" and "e-dec Web" web applications, which offer manual entry in the browser for users without their own system integration, and from the BAZG API portal itself (the access point, not the individual message).
