# Passar Anmelderrolle (declarant role)

In the new Swiss goods-traffic system Passar (Federal Office for Customs and Border Security, BAZG), the declarant role designates the function of the declarant – the person or company that lodges a goods declaration in its own name or on behalf of a third party and is responsible for its accuracy. In plain terms: whoever imports or exports goods via Passar takes on the declarant role, either directly or through a freight forwarder or customs agent. For professionals (forwarders, hauliers, customs agents, trading firms): the role is requested in the BAZG ePortal as a business-partner role and assigned to the Business Partner ID (GP-ID). It authorises the creation and submission of goods declarations and the retrieval of the electronic assessment decision (eVV), and carries obligations: complete and truthful data, retention of supporting documents, and cooperation in BAZG selection and controls. Distinction: the declarant role differs from other participant roles such as importer/exporter, carrier or authorised consignee/consignor, and replaces the earlier role concept from e-dec.
