Pallet heat treatment certification under ISPM 15 is the internationally recognised proof that wooden pallets and wood packaging materials have been heated to a minimum core temperature of 56 °C for at least 30 minutes, eliminating pests and pathogens that could otherwise enter importing countries. ISPM 15 – International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15, issued by the IPPC – is a mandatory import requirement in a large number of countries, including the United States, Australia, China, and EU member states. Compliant pallets must bear a standardised mark on both ends, showing the manufacturing country code, an officially assigned facility number, and the abbreviation «HT». Shipments arriving on unmarked or illegible pallets risk rejection, quarantine, or destruction of the packaging at the shipper's expense. Freight forwarders are advised to verify ISPM 15 compliance before booking international cargo, as remediation after departure is both costly and time-consuming.
