Outbound goods inspection is a structured pre-shipment check in which warehouses and freight forwarders verify that a consignment is complete, correctly packaged, properly addressed, and accompanied by the required documentation. Item counts are reconciled against picking lists or delivery notes, packaging integrity is assessed, and shipping documents – bills of lading, customs declarations, and certificates of origin where applicable – are reviewed before release. It is the final quality gate before goods pass into the carrier's custody. Defects discovered only at the consignee's premises trigger claims, returns, and liability disputes; outbound inspection is designed to catch these issues at source. It differs from inbound goods inspection, which applies to arriving deliveries.
