This official or self-certified document confirms the geographic origin of the goods and enables the consignee to claim a reduced duty rate at customs clearance in the country of destination. The specific form depends on the applicable agreement: EUR.1 and EUR-MED are used in European preferential trade, Form A under the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), and the origin declaration on invoice for approved exporters. Certificates are issued by chambers of commerce, customs authorities, or, where authorised, by the exporter directly. An origin certificate should not be confused with origin documentation in the broader sense, which encompasses all supply chain records substantiating a product's originating status.
