> Operational efficiency in logistics and freight forwarding describes the ratio between resources deployed – labor, vehicles, warehouse space, energy – and the output achieved, measured in shipments processed, delivery lead times, or cost per unit.

Operational efficiency in logistics and freight forwarding describes the ratio between resources deployed – labor, vehicles, warehouse space, energy – and the output achieved, measured in shipments processed, delivery lead times, or cost per unit. A forwarder improves operational efficiency when the same shipment volume is handled with fewer vehicle movements, less floor space, or shorter dwell times. High efficiency does not mean running at full capacity: buffers for peak demand and quality checks are part of any realistic efficiency target. Common KPIs include throughput rate, utilization ratio, cost per shipment, and on-time delivery rate. Operational efficiency differs from operating capacity, which defines the absolute maximum output a facility can sustain.
