On-time delivery (OTD) measures the share of shipments that reach the consignee within the contractually agreed time window. It ranks among the most widely used KPIs in transport logistics, applied by shippers, freight forwarders, and carriers alike to demonstrate service reliability and pinpoint process weaknesses. When OTD rates fall short of targets, root-cause analysis typically follows—common drivers include transport disruptions, customs delays, and capacity constraints. Unlike the combined metric OTIF (On-Time In-Full), OTD focuses solely on timing, regardless of whether the delivered quantity was correct.
