# NCTS unloading status

A driver arrives at the destination customs office with the consignment – what follows is the unloading notification: the NCTS unloading status records whether and when goods were physically unloaded, at which facility, and which customs inspections are triggered as a result. Freight forwarders are required to report this status in the New Computerized Transit System (NCTS) for the transit procedure to be formally discharged. Without a proper unloading notification, the procedure remains open, potentially leading to storage charges, delays in goods availability and, in some cases, calls on the guarantee. The unloading status is therefore the last operational step in the NCTS status chain before the transit procedure is closed. In Switzerland, transit movements have since 1 May 2024 no longer been handled via a separate NCTS front-end but exclusively through the BAZG goods-traffic system Passar (transit declaration); Passar 1.0 implements the EU NCTS Phase 5 message format.
