The NCTS Transit-ID uniquely identifies a single customs transit movement within the New Computerized Transit System, the electronic platform underpinning the common and Community transit procedure across Europe. Every transit operation is assigned this reference at the moment of declaration, and the number accompanies all status queries, authority notifications, and accompanying documents throughout the movement. Freight forwarders and customs brokers rely on it to track a shipment from presentation at the office of departure through to release at the office of destination. Without a valid Transit-ID, neither enquiries nor follow-up actions can be processed in the system. It should not be confused with the MRN (Movement Reference Number), which references the declaration as a whole rather than the individual transit operation.
