Discharging the principal's liability after a Union transit procedure depends on receipt of an NCTS Release Message. This electronic message within the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS) is triggered by the office of destination once all checks have been completed without objection. It formally closes the transit procedure, releases the financial guarantee held against the movement, and clears the way for the goods to enter a subsequent customs procedure. It is distinct from the arrival notification, which merely confirms physical presentation of the goods, and from an incident message, which signals disruptions en route.
