Customs offices at departure, en route, and at destination exchange these messages to monitor the movement in real time and confirm arrival. For freight operators, the system accelerates guarantee release once transit is closed and reduces the risk of undetected diversion. The NCTS message is distinct from the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS), which serves pre-arrival risk analysis rather than transit control.
