The NCTS completion status is the final processing state of a transit movement in the New Computerized Transit System, confirming that customs authorities have formally closed the transit procedure. It is set once the office of destination acknowledges receipt of the goods and all verification steps have been completed. For principal holders and freight forwarders, this status is operationally significant: the comprehensive guarantee remains blocked until closure is confirmed. A positive completion status releases the principal from customs debt liability and enables the consignee to take full delivery. It should not be confused with the non-completion status, which flags a transit movement still open or subject to further investigation. In Switzerland, transit movements have since 1 May 2024 no longer been handled via a separate NCTS front-end but exclusively through the BAZG goods-traffic system Passar (transit declaration); Passar 1.0 implements the EU NCTS Phase 5 message format.
