# NCTS arrival status

Unlike the shipping status, which tracks a consignment along its transit route, the NCTS arrival status marks a distinct endpoint: the confirmation that goods have physically reached the designated office of destination. This status update links the arrival timestamp, consignee identification and cross-reference to the original transit declaration within the system. For freight forwarders, a correctly set arrival status is a prerequisite for initiating the subsequent steps – unloading inspection, goods release and formal discharge of the transit procedure. If the arrival notification is missing or incorrect, the transit procedure cannot be properly completed. In Switzerland, transit movements have since 1 May 2024 no longer been handled via a separate NCTS front-end but exclusively through the BAZG goods-traffic system Passar (transit declaration); Passar 1.0 implements the EU NCTS Phase 5 message format.
