> The national transit procedure (German: nationales Transitverfahren, nTV) is a Swiss customs procedure that allows uncleared goods to be moved under customs supervision within Switzerland from one customs office to another – for example from an inland customs office to a border customs office or between two border customs offices – without import duties (customs duty, VAT) becoming payable in the process.

In simple terms, the goods travel through the country with an "open" customs document until the procedure is discharged at the destination office. The nTV is handled electronically via the NCTS (New Computerised Transit System), operated by the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (BAZG); under DaziT and Passar the transit and transport process is gradually being migrated into the Passar goods-traffic system (planned; dates may change). For professionals (forwarders, hauliers, customs agents): the holder of the procedure (principal) opens the nTV at the office of departure, lodges a guarantee and receives a Movement Reference Number (MRN); the procedure must be discharged at the office of destination within the time limit, otherwise duties are recovered and the guarantee is called. The relevant rules are set out in the BAZG transit guidelines (R-14). Not to be confused with the common transit procedure (gVV), which governs cross-border transit in the common transit area with the EU and EFTA, with import/export handling via Passar (formerly e-dec), or with the assessment decision (eVV).
