Metrics are quantifiable measures used to track the performance of transport, warehousing, and supply chain operations. Typical examples in freight forwarding and customs include on-time delivery rate, cost per shipment, damage ratio, warehouse turnover, and customs clearance lead time. They allow performance comparisons across time periods, locations, and transport modes, and help identify inefficiencies before they become critical. Metrics differ from KPIs in that KPIs represent a curated subset of metrics with direct strategic relevance. Consistent measurement is the foundation of data-driven logistics management.
