Airlines and authorized carriers issue the Master Air Waybill (MAWB) to the freight forwarder, making it the principal transport document for a consolidated air freight shipment on a given flight. The MAWB evidences the contract of carriage between carrier and forwarder, captures flight-level data—flight number, routing, total weight—and serves as the carrier's receipt for the entire consolidated load. Beneath it sit all the individual House Air Waybills (HAWBs) from the various shippers. Where the HAWB governs the shipper–forwarder relationship, the MAWB operates strictly between airline and forwarder.
