A Maritime Single Window is a centralised digital platform through which shipowners, vessel agents, and port operators submit all regulatory notifications required for a ship's arrival and departure in a single electronic transaction. Instead of filing crew lists, cargo manifests, dangerous goods declarations, and health certificates separately with customs, port authority, border control, and health services, one unified submission covers all requirements. Authorities receive the data simultaneously and can issue clearances in parallel, significantly reducing port turnaround times. The EU made Maritime Single Windows mandatory for all member states from 2024. It should not be confused with the broader trade single window concept: the Maritime Single Window is specifically designed for ship calls and multi-agency port coordination.
