When a vessel arrives in port, the shipping company or its agent must report data on the ship, crew, cargo, and dangerous goods simultaneously to customs, port control, health authorities, and other agencies. The Maritime National Single Window is the government-operated IT platform that consolidates all these submissions at a single access point and routes them automatically to the relevant authorities—removing the need for separate logins and portals for each agency. Duplicate data entry disappears, clearance procedures move faster, and the administrative workload for shipowners, agents, and public bodies decreases substantially. As the national implementation layer, the Maritime National Single Window is the specific system each EU member state operates to fulfil the requirements of the EU Maritime Single Window framework, with both systems built on the standardised FAL forms and datasets defined by the IMO FAL Convention.
