When an organisation needs to demonstrate systematic supply chain security to authorities and business partners, ISO 28000 becomes relevant. The international standard specifies requirements for a supply chain security management system and forms the basis for third-party certification by an accredited body. The process covers documented risk assessments, implementation of preventive controls such as access restrictions and personnel screening, and regular internal audits. Successful assessment results in a time-limited certificate, which customs authorities, major clients, and insurers increasingly require from logistics providers. ISO 28000 complements programmes such as AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) and C-TPAT but does not replace them.
