Unlike purely national trade statistics, the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI) measures country-level logistics capabilities on a standardized, internationally comparable scale. Scores are derived from surveys of logistics professionals active in international trade and cover six dimensions: customs efficiency, infrastructure quality, timeliness of shipments, logistics competence of local providers, shipment tracking, and transparency. Governments use the index to benchmark reform priorities and attract foreign investment; shippers and freight forwarders consult it to gauge delay risks on specific trade corridors. A low LPI score typically points to customs bottlenecks or structural infrastructure gaps that raise lead times and costs.
