Loading control is the systematic inspection and documentation performed while loading a transport unit – truck, sea container, or railcar. It verifies that the quantity, type, and condition of goods match the shipping documents, that the cargo is properly secured, and that packaging and labelling meet applicable requirements. The loading supervisor or driver signs the consignment note or bill of lading, checks container seals, and confirms weight declarations. Thorough loading control protects all parties: it prevents disputes over missing or damaged goods, reduces complications at border crossings, and provides the primary evidence for claims against carriers or insurers in the event of loss or damage. It should not be confused with customs examination, which is a government-authority measure conducted independently of the shipper's own loading procedures.
