Light, bulky goods such as plastic components or furniture fill the available space before the weight limit is reached, making volume the binding constraint in those cases. This relationship also underpins the volumetric weight formula used by air freight and courier services to price bulky consignments. Unlike the loading meter, which captures floor space only, load volume accounts for the full three-dimensional use of space – making it especially relevant for stacked or palletized cargo.
