> Load securing refers to all technical and organisational measures that prevent cargo from shifting, tipping, or falling during transport, loading, and unloading.

Load securing refers to all technical and organisational measures that prevent cargo from shifting, tipping, or falling during transport, loading, and unloading. Freight forwarders, carriers, and shippers share responsibility for its correct implementation, using lashing straps, dunnage, edge protectors, void fillers, and deliberate stacking sequences. The CTU Code, published jointly by IMO, ILO, and UNECE, provides the internationally recognised technical framework. Non-compliance carries serious consequences: fines, liability claims, and loss of operating licences are all documented outcomes of inadequate securing. Load securing should not be confused with mere weight distribution or load planning – it specifically addresses restraint against movement in all directions.
