Picture a truck braking hard on the motorway: without proper load securing, a pallet can become a lethal projectile. Load securing covers all technical and organisational measures used to fix cargo on a vehicle so it resists braking, acceleration, and cornering forces without shifting, tipping, or falling. Common devices include lashing straps, chains, anti-slip mats, chocks, and void-filling materials. Carriers, shippers, and drivers share joint legal responsibility under national road traffic regulations and standards such as EN 12195. Inadequate securing exposes all parties to fines, liability claims, and serious road safety risks. Load securing should not be confused with packaging: it operates at the level of the transport unit, not the individual item.
