A lashing load calculation system is software that determines the required securing forces and specifies the type, number and arrangement of lashing equipment, based on cargo weight, centre of gravity, transport mode and applicable standards. It converts dynamic forces – longitudinal, lateral and vertical accelerations specific to road, rail or sea transport – into actionable tie-down configurations using straps, chains or turnbuckles. Relevant standards include DIN EN 12195 for road transport, the CTU Code for multimodal shipments and the IMDG Code for dangerous goods by sea. Freight forwarders and shippers use these systems to validate load plans before departure and to produce legally defensible records of cargo securing measures. Not to be confused with a stability calculator, which assesses the overall stability of a vessel or vehicle.
