Just-in-Time (JIT) is a production and logistics strategy in which materials, components, and goods are delivered exactly when needed – no earlier, no later. Inventory holdings fall to a minimum, capital tied up in stock decreases, and lead times shorten. The concept originates from the Toyota Production System and has become standard practice across automotive and advanced manufacturing. It depends on reliable supplier relationships, stable transport networks, and accurate demand planning; if any of these prerequisites fail, production stoppages follow quickly with no buffer to absorb the shock. Unlike Just-in-Case logistics, JIT carries no safety stock; unlike Just-in-Sequence (JIS), the exact delivery order is not a binding requirement.
