Freight forwarders, warehouse operators, and customs brokers use ISO 9001 to demonstrate that their operations are systematically managed and subject to continuous improvement. Issued by the International Organization for Standardization, it is the world's most widely adopted standard for quality management systems (QMS). Organizations must document processes, identify risks and opportunities, and track customer satisfaction in measurable terms. In freight practice, this covers shipment processing, claims handling, and subcontractor qualification. Certification by an accredited body increasingly functions as a prerequisite in tenders and regulatory contexts. Not to be confused with ISO 9000 (foundations and vocabulary) or ISO 9004 (guidance for sustained success), neither of which provides a basis for certification.
